What is Body Contouring?
Abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" is now available in many forms. The optimal treatment of the abdomen depends on whether the problem is mostly unwanted fatty tissue or loosened excess skin. When excess fat is the primary problem then liposuction is the best alternative. However, once the skin and deeper tissues have been excessively stretched, then they need to be tightened with a tummy tuck. A full abdominoplasty not only removes extra skin and fatty tissue, but it involves tightening the muscle layer of the abdomen. This results in a tight, flat tummy.
Mini-abdominoplasties are designed for excess skin and bulging of the lower portion of the abdomen (below the belly button). There are many variations in-between, which are tailored to fit your needs.
By carefully removing excess fatty deposits, usually in the outer thigh (saddlebag area) or abdomen, a more pleasing contour can be obtained. Even with proper exercise and diet, many people cannot get rid of unwanted fat. That is when liposuction is most effective. The surgery is done as an outpatient under general anesthesia because it reduces pain, swelling and fluid loss.
Thigh lifts are done most often in cases of extreme weight loss. A less popular treatment than liposuction because of the potential for visible scarring, thigh lift can produce great results. With the thigh lift, the skin is tightened to make the thigh look more attractive.
Similar to the thigh lift, this procedure is designed to remove excess, sagging skin. It is most effective in those patients who have recently lost large amounts of weight, leaving an excess of skin and underlying fat which will not conform to their new body shape.
Buttocks contouring improves and/or removes excess, sagging buttocks and thigh skin that has developed as a result of weight loss, aging and gravity, or hereditary. The result is more flattering and toned butt and thigh contour.
